A Year in Luke/ActsSample

A Year in Luke/Acts

DAY 242 OF 364

In his conversation with the Lord, Peter is told to kill and eat animals that were forbidden under the old law. Peter initially rejects and questions this command from the Lord.

The Lord’s response is not about the redemption of the unclean animals; rather, it was to speak to the introduction of the Gentile believers.

Often, we get caught up in processes and opinions that offend us and miss out on the call to unity as the church. We allow our mere differences and convictions to spread us thin as the body of Christ. We grow weak and fragile when we are not united. It is so easy to abandon environments we have been placed in because they do not suit our preferences.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a theologian who prized the idea of living in a Christian community, says in his book Life Together, “The Christ in his own heart is weaker than the Christ in the word of his brother; his own heart is uncertain, his brother’s is sure.”

What would the church look like if we were to see the differences in each other and embrace them? Instead of seeking like-minded people with similar interests, what if we sought Spirit-filled souls? What would your life look like then?
