The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Year

DAY 333 OF 365

Week 48. Day 4. Mark 11-13.

Mark 11-13 describe the Lord returning to his temple, as promised in Malachi 3-4, which you may wish to skim for some background to this section.

11:12-25 Notice that Mark ‘sandwiches’ the cleansing of the temple between the stories about the fig tree. The fig tree (that looks great but has no fruit) is a picture of the temple, and what will happen to it.

12:1-12 How does the parable of the tenants tell the story of God’s people?

12:28-34 Jesus is asked what the greatest commandment is.

  • What does he say first? (v29)
  • What two commandments does he then give?

How do these three things summarise the law in the Old Testament?

Ch 13 Destruction of the temple. See notes on Matthew/Luke for more discussion of different views.

For reflection: What here amazes you about Jesus?

NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.

About this Plan

The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Year

The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
