The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a YearSample
Week 20. Day 5. Jeremiah 23-29.
23:1-8 Key promises! What is being promised here?
The rest of Ch 23 contrasts the lying prophets (v9-17) who just say what the people want to hear, with true prophets, who stand in God’s council (18-22) and speak his word truly, even when it is hard to hear (v29)
As you read the rest of ch23-29, notice the opposition to the true word of God
Note 25:11-12 Prophecy that the exile in Babylon will last 70 years—i.e. a complete generation.
Ch 29 – Jeremiah’s letter to the exiles
- v7 seek the good (shalom) of this city—i.e. Babylon where they are in exile!
- v11 I know the plans I have for you…
Both these messages to the exiles have application for Christians today, but first try to think what these messages would have meant to the original exiles.
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
