Day 4: Seeking the King
Imagine setting out on a journey without knowing exactly where it will lead you, only that this trek is important and worth everything you have. The wise men, or Magi, did just that. They saw a unique star in the sky and felt compelled to follow it, believing it would lead them to a new king. Their journey was long and likely filled with challenges—deserts to cross, mountains to climb, and uncertainties at every turn.
The Magi were willing to leave behind their comforts and endure hardships because they believed something extraordinary awaited them. When they finally arrived and saw Jesus with His mother, Mary, they didn't hesitate. They bowed down and worshiped Him, offering valuable gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh—treasures fit for a king.
Think about that moment. Despite their humble surroundings—a simple house in a small town—the wise men recognized the significance of this child. Their long journey, with all its sacrifices and challenges, was worthwhile now that they were in Jesus's presence.
Like the wise men, we are all on a journey. Life can be full of difficulties and distractions that make the path difficult. But when we focus on seeking Jesus, those challenges become part of the journey that leads us closer to Him. Our losses or hardships can be seen as gains when they bring us nearer to the Savior.
The wise men gave Jesus their best treasures. Similarly, we are invited to offer Him what we value—our time, talents, and hearts. When we surrender what the world considers necessary, we find that what truly matters is holding onto Jesus.
Reflection:
- What are you seeking in your life right now? Are you searching for meaning, purpose, or something else?
- What valuable things in your life might you offer to Jesus?
- How can the wise men's journey inspire you to pursue a closer relationship with Him?
