Have You Any Room? - a 5-Day Christmas Reading PlanSample
Day 2: Opening the Door
Picture your heart as a home with many rooms. Some rooms are tidy and well-kept, while others might be cluttered or even locked away. Jesus stands at the door, gently knocking, waiting for you to let Him in. He doesn't barge in uninvited or force His way through; He respects your freedom to choose.
Often, we hesitate to open the door. Maybe we feel unworthy, thinking our "house" is too messy for such a holy guest. Perhaps we're afraid of what might change if we let Him in, or we're simply too preoccupied with other things to answer the knock.
But Jesus isn't deterred by the mess. He doesn't require us to have everything in order before inviting Him in. In fact, He specializes in helping us clean up the clutter of our lives. He brings light to the dark corners, healing to the broken places, and order to the chaos.
Consider the people of Bethlehem who missed the opportunity to welcome the Savior because they were too busy or indifferent. They didn't recognize who was at their doorstep. In contrast, think about the shepherds who, upon hearing the good news, hurried to find Jesus and welcomed Him with open hearts.
Jesus' invitation is personal and ongoing. He says, "If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in." This is a promise. He's not just asking for a brief visit; He wants to have a meaningful relationship with you.
Opening the door to Jesus means trusting Him with every part of your life—the good, the bad, and the ugly. It means being honest with Him about your struggles and fears. It also means being willing to let go of things that might be holding you back from a deeper relationship with Him.
When you open the door, Jesus doesn't come to condemn but to offer grace, love, and companionship. He wants to share in your joys and carry your burdens. His presence brings peace that goes beyond circumstance.
Reflection:
- What are some barriers that prevent you from fully opening your heart to Jesus?
- Are there areas in your life you're hesitant to share with Him? Why?
- How can embracing His presence transform your life?
