Jesus is Born!
'So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.'
We’ve heard these words more times than we can count to the point that they roll off the tongue, and we may miss the gravity of this scene. So, let’s step back and really consider what took place in the coming of the Son of God to earth.
Jesus is sitting in heaven and the right hand of God Almighty. A constant stream of worship and adoration comes to him from legions of angels. All power and glory are given to him by his Father. Jesus, also called 'the Word,' has always been, for John 1:1-2 states, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.' Then comes the long-awaited time of transition. 'And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.' (John 1:14). Jesus left his exulted place in heaven to be born in a sullied, base stable and placed in an animals’ feeding trough to wide-eyed humans.
Jesus divested himself of his divinity to take on his Father’s mission- this was a loving submission.
