Faith at Work: A Plan for Business LeadersSample
God is Sovereign
“Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’ But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:17-18).
These verses have always helped me in my business. We must always remember that it is God who has given us the ability to create wealth; it’s not by any skills or abilities we inherently possess. It is God who brings the clients in, God who gives us ideas for the business, and God who helps us when we’re in need. God has my back! He has a Plan to use me and my business for His Kingdom!
That’s why we need to spend time in prayer, seeking God, waiting on Him, and listening to Him. When we need jobs or sales, we need to pray. When we face issues, we need to go to God first in prayer.
For me, I need to trust that when I’ve talked to God about the work I need or a solution to a problem, He has heard me and is working it all out. I trust that God has my best interests at heart, that He is a Good God, that He has a Plan, and that I can trust Him to get us through any trial!
Since God is the One who gives me the ability to run my business and helps me every step of the way, this also requires that I act with integrity - that I honor God through my business and in how I carry out my work. This involves watching my speech, being honest, and following through on my commitments—even when it’s hard. And beyond that, I need to be generous.
Let’s be people who help others where we can, using the skills and abilities God has given us to further His Kingdom and build His Church.
