Faith at Work: A Plan for Business LeadersSample
After the death of King David, his son Solomon took the throne.
In 1 Kings 5:3-5 in a letter to Hiram king of Tyre, who was friends with David, he says, “You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD put his enemies under his feet. But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster. I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the LORD my God, as the LORD told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.'"
He then goes on to request various building materials to build a temple for the Lord. That word "adversary" is translated from the Hebrew word "satan" - We could therefore write this as “…but now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no satan or disaster!"
What an incredible thought that Solomon could say during his reign that there was such peace that there was no adversary or "satan"! Such a remarkable victory, all while living under an inferior covenant compared to the New Covenant we enjoy through the Death and Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
However, the dichotomy is that our experience often looks more like King David’s than King Solomon’s. So, how do we navigate or reconcile that?
Let’s look at some of the keys to achieving that:
God is good, all the time. We need to settle this in our hearts—even when we don’t understand. We are called to “walk by faith and not by sight,” which means that on this side of Heaven, we will always live with some mystery. Never put God on trial (“If You… then You would…”). We serve Him, not the other way around.
We have an enemy that was defeated at the Cross. It’s our responsibility to enforce that Victory through the Blood of Jesus and the Power of the Holy Spirit. We are in a fight, but it’s a fight we are destined to win. When it comes to spiritual enemies harassing us in any way, be bold and relentless in the Name of Jesus and send them back to where they belong. We’ve been given both the Authority and the Assignment!
Practice and get good at hearing God's Voice! Everything you need for life and Godliness comes from Him, and He has the answers to all our challenges.
In the example of King Solomon, we have a template of what’s possible when it comes to living a life of peace and victory, free from the oppression of the enemy. There are a myriad of Scriptures that declare the Goodness of God in our lives.
As you go about your business, making decisions and leading, be reminded that you have a High and Holy Calling—and that God is the One who will guide you through by the Grace of His Hand.
