A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday DevotionalsSample
What is the first thing to get struck off your schedule when you are busy? How often does time with the Lord become an afterthought, a challenge, or a chore?
How often do our prayers of praise and thankfulness turn into prayers of asking for? We must remember to praise, or we will forget to be thankful. Thankfulness is our eyes to wonder, and its simplicity helps us see miracles occur.
God has been so faithful. From the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation, we can read of the wonders of God’s love. God’s love never changes, falters, or fails. There is no beginning or end to the marvels God demonstrates or the praise of God’s name. John 21:25 says, ‘Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.’
We must continue to remember, celebrate, and speak of God. We must also continue to seek God, search for God’s works each day, and listen to God in the evening when we wind down.
When we begin to forget God, goodness slowly dims, and reality starts to slip away. Malice, busyness, lack of forgiveness, or hurry without grace creep in. We simply can’t afford not to remember.
Prayer: Jesus, help me today to be thankful. I thank you now for your goodness, faithfulness, and endurance. I thank you for walking with me, for the wonders you showed the Israelites in their lifetimes, and for the hope you’ve given me today.
Action: Block three lots of time in your day right now for a few minutes each to stop, reflect, and thank God for God’s goodness.
