A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday DevotionalsSample
It is frustrating when you show someone how to do something, and they stop paying attention! There are only so many times that grace reminds you and prompts you to try again before you can only conclude that they aren’t really that interested in learning. It must be bizarre to be God, showing us wonders after wonders, and we lose interest! Are you guilty of nourishing your own pleasure or pursuing your own pain without acknowledging what God is already at work in your midst, doing? Eagerly awaiting your engagement?
How often did you pray for God to ‘break your heart for what breaks (God’s)’ or for God to show up in large and small ways, but you just stopped… looking?
As we approach major Christian calendar events, it can be easy to think that Christmas, Easter, or Pentecost are the giant full-stops of the season. But how crazy is it to forget that Jesus lives and walks with us presently, really, right now, and that these events are simply a form of physical liturgy to remind us of this fact?
How might you remember in the ‘ordinary time’, the time in the Christian Calendar that isn’t marked by ‘something special’, that God is working and walking a rhythm within you even here?
God is omnipotent, omnipresent, powerful, wonderful, loveable, and eternal. God is everywhere and everything, and we do well to seek the works of God’s hands all day long because there we will find long life and hope for all our days.
Prayer: Jesus, forgive me when I use you to underline my own words or my own seasons. Help me to be present for the wonders and works you’re showing me that I’ve asked you to show me. Help me to show you the love, attention, and honour you both require and deserve.
Action: Spend some time in silence, seeking God and giving God all your attention.
