Acts 2:42-47 | God's Community

DAY 5 OF 5

Life in an Acts 2 community that’s gathered in the Spirit around the message of Jesus is an incredible thing. But it’s two-edged. It can be so incredible that all of our time and attention is focused on the people we already know and love. We can forget there’s still other people God wants to be a part of it.

Christians can be guilty of turning churches into country clubs. They may welcome the occasional visitor, but it’s really intended for the people who already belong and that they already know.

God won’t have any of that. God’s community has always and is always meant to be a witness that reaches out to others. Acts 2:47 reminds us: “The Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

In Acts 2, we see that believers have a greater purpose. It was the purpose of Israel and it’s the purpose of his Church. To be a witness. A light to the nations. A means by which God brings his good news to those who are not yet a part of his community. To reach out and welcome them to the new community and life together in Jesus.

Love your Acts 2 community. But ask God to help you keep your focus on its greater purpose. God wants to add to the number of those who are being saved. Who can you reach out to and welcome?

If this plan helped orient you to the ongoing work and teaching of Jesus in this world, we encourage you to subscribe to our other plans on Acts.

Day 4

About this Plan

Acts 2:42-47 | God's Community

Acts is a call to be a part of a new community living out a new way of life through God’s Spirit. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
