Daily Bible Reading— October 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Justice and PeaceSample
October 30
Introduction
Amos 8:1–14: The prophet Amos has another vision, a basket of ripened fruit, showing that the time of Israel’s judgment and punishment has come. Images of an earthquake, a solar eclipse, and famine are used to describe the impending doom and destruction.
Today’s Key Verse: Amos 8:9a
[The LORD said:] “The time is coming when I will make the sun go down at noon and the earth grow dark in daytime.”
Reflect
Reread verses 4–6. What dishonest practices are named? According to verse 11, for what will the people hunger and thirst? If you were to envision a time when people are feeling “parched” with a sense of longing for God, how would you describe it?
Pray
Sovereign God, daily I hunger and thirst for your message. Thank you for your life-giving Word that nourishes and sustains me day by day and renews my spirit. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Amos 9:1–15: The prophet describes the future restoration of Israel.
