Daily Bible Reading— October 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Justice and PeaceSample
October 27
Introduction
Amos 5:1–27: The prophet Amos preaches the LORD’s message of judgment because those who are rich and powerful are taking advantage of the poor and worshiping foreign gods. Amos lists the ways the rich and powerful have ignored the LORD’s concern for justice, and he tells the people what the LORD demands.
Today’s Key Verse: Amos 5:24
Let justice flow like a stream, and righteousness like a river that never goes dry.
Reflect
Why does Amos begin with a funeral song? According to verses 4–17, what are the consequences of disobedience? What are the benefits of obeying the LORD? What injustices are named? Do you see similar injustices today? Can you identify anyone as a voice of justice?
Pray
I come to you, Lord, trusting in your love and mercy so that I may live according to your will. Let me do my part so that justice will flow like a stream and righteousness like a river that never goes dry. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Amos 6:1–14: The prophet describes the destruction of Israel.
