DAY 2 OF 3

“Did someone ever make you feel like you are not enough? Like you need to be someone else if you want to be loved? Did someone scar that broken heart with all those sticks and stones. Like You cannot just be yourself, well I need you to know..

There is one who sees the real you. Loves you as you are. He sees the perfect and imperfect. Sees the beauty in the scars. There is one who sees a diamond that shines like only you can shine. The one who made you, made you.. One of a kind. “

It’s true, we tend to carry the things that have been spoken over us. Maybe it was something someone said to you as a child and you have carried it for years. Maybe someone’s sticks and stones have now become your identity and you wear them as a scarlet letter. Or maybe your inner critic has grown louder and louder and there are no kind words left to say about yourself.

If we’re being honest, maybe we feel a little like the underdog for those reasons. But I can recall a specific underdog in the Bible. He was a little different from what you would call “successful” or “popular” and he didn't have the “coolest” job at the time. David was not like the rest - he was overlooked, worked with sheep, and was a man after God’s own heart. But God used David’s unique personality, fiery spirit, and love of God to save many.

When a battle broke out against a giant Philistine and Saul’s army, David was the least likely person to step into battle. In fact, he wasn’t even invited. But David’s determination and love for the Lord gave him the confidence to ask to fight this giant that everyone feared. He was delivered from fighting lions and bears and believed God would deliver him from the hand of this giant as well. When King Saul gave him his blessing, he also gave him his clothing and armor. But it was unlike David to fight while wearing these things.

David needed to fight this giant in his own way, not in the ways of Saul or his army. Sometimes we can be tempted to operate in a way we’re not designed to. Maybe we’re comparing our story to someone else’s, maybe we don’t look like a specific crowd, or maybe we might want to change something about ourselves in order to please others.

What are you wearing or borrowing that isn’t yours? What piece of clothing are you putting on that God didn’t design for you? Maybe you’re wishing you had a gift like someone else.

David was uniquely created for such a time. He was different from the rest for a reason! He was gifted with certain traits for God’s glory and his story reminds us that our uniqueness is our superpower.

God’s word says that we are his “masterpiece” and he has prepared good works for us to do. In other words, you are uniquely capable and specially designed for a purpose specific to who God has called you to be. The world needs you to step into that purpose. There are other lives waiting on the other side of your “yes” to God’s plan.

I can’t wait to see what you do. And at the end of the day, I give glory to God for all that he has done! Glory to God because He allows us to be a part of this beautiful story of redemption. Glory to God because He has given us a purpose that gives us a hope and a future. Glory to God because when He created us, He set us apart and called us good. Glory to God because of the beautiful gifts He has given us to faithfully serve and impact the world. Glory to God because of the value He has put in us.

And lastly, I leave you with this:

Did someone ever tell you that you’re precious in his sight? You are strong a joyful song that’s singing through the night. Did someone say that you have faith that this world really needs? And the you that you are, is the you, you need to be.

There is one who sees the real you. Loves you as you are. He sees the perfect and imperfect. Sees the beauty in the scars. There is one who sees a diamond that shines like only you can shine. The one who made you, made you.. One of a kind.

Share:

Are there words that you are wearing that are not true to who God says you are? Have you worn the words people have spoken over you? What is something that is unique about you? What is a gift or talent that you have? How can you use that gift to bring God glory? How can you use that to uplift or speak life over someone? Write down one of these verses and meditate on it this week!

Pray with me:

Father, thank You for choosing me before You created me. Thank You for making me in Your image. I praise You for masterfully creating me and designing me to do good works for Your kingdom! Thank You for the purpose and the calling You have spoken over my life. Remind me of the special ways You designed me and the gifts that You’ve given me! I pray to tune out the words the world says about me but draw near to every word You speak over my life! Empower me to live the unique calling You have created me to live out for Your glory! In Jesus name, Amen!
