Have you ever done something to get ahead that you're not proud of? Most of us have at some point in life. There’s a story in Scripture that shows us this very thing lived out. A man who wanted to get ahead came to talk to Jesus about how to grow. He was confident that he had done everything right in life, and he came to Jesus looking for affirmation that this was, in fact, the case. But when Jesus spoke to him, He asked the man to do something completely unexpected to continue his growth: give away everything he owned to others.

Jesus’ way of showing us that real growth isn’t easy. It takes time, it takes patience, and it takes sacrifice. For this man, it won’t always come easily, but when we confidently follow Jesus' lead, we’ll find that growth is always worth the effort.

Today, consider one area you’d like to grow in. Ask God to help you put in the effort, sacrifice, and patience to let the Spirit help you grow and mature in this area of your life.
