Be Humble

DAY 20 OF 28

James, a writer in the Bible, was Jesus’ brother. I have to think that meant James could’ve had a really hard time feeling like he measured up. Maybe he even compared himself to his brother, the Son of God! That couldn’t have been easy! Still, when we read James’ writing in Scripture, we don’t see envy, or jealousy, or comparison. Instead, we see humility.

James saw things in Jesus that he recognized were qualities of God. When James talks about the wisdom God gives us, he’s talking from experience. He’s talking about the wisdom he saw Jesus Himself display. And the same is true with humility! Jesus’ life shows us that humility and wisdom go hand in hand. As James learned by example, being humble is always the wise thing to do.

Today, think about the wisest person you know. Maybe it’s a coach, a teacher, a family member, or a Small Group Leader. Whoever it is, share this verse with them and tell them how you see God’s wisdom and humility at work in their lives every day.
