The Parable of the Ten MinasSample

The Parable of the Ten Minas

DAY 2 OF 6

The time until the King returns

“Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.’” (Luke 19:13)

Jesus told a story about a king who was traveling to have himself appointed king. Before he left, this man instructed his servants to manage his affairs until he himself returned. To ten servants he gave each one mina. That was a nice amount of money, about three to four months' salary. They were to put this money to work.

We saw yesterday that this king is an example of the Lord Jesus Himself. Like the king in the story, Jesus instructs His servants to “engage in business" until He returns. They are all given the same starting capital and the same assignment. So this is not about personal gifts or talents, but about something that all followers of Christ share. I think we should understand this “mina” as the Word of God, the message of the Gospel. With that message, every Christian gets to work until Jesus will return. The goal is to make more people into followers of the King.

Paul is a good example here. He went to great lengths to tell others about the Lord Jesus. In summary, he wrote, “I do all this for the sake of the Gospel.” (1 Corinthians 9:23)

Do you consider the Gospel a valuable resource? How do you use it to the glory of the King?

About this Plan

The Parable of the Ten Minas
