Becoming More Like Christ Through Your ChurchSample
Grow as a Disciple by Worshiping Joyously
Worshiping together is a vital aspect of Christian life that fosters spiritual growth, unity, and a deeper relationship with Christ. The New Testament underscores the importance of communal worship, emphasizing that it is not merely a suggestion but a command for believers. Hebrews 10:25 instructs, “Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near” (NLT). This verse highlights the necessity of gathering for worship, encouraging each other, and collectively anticipating Christ’s return.
The need for Christians to be together in unity cannot be overstated. Jesus prayed for the unity of believers in John 17:21, saying, “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me” (NLT). Unity in the body of Christ is a powerful testimony to the world of God’s love and the truth of the gospel. When we come together to worship, we build a sense of community and shared purpose, strengthening our collective faith and witness.
In the context of worship, we also discover the joy of Christ. Psalm 16:11 declares, “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (NLT). When Christians gather for worship, they experience the presence of God uniquely and robustly. This shared joy, found in singing, praying, and observing the sacraments, enriches our spiritual lives and deepens our relationship with Christ.
Moreover, we grow significantly through the preaching of the Word. Romans 10:17 affirms, “Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ” (NLT). Preaching is a central element of worship that helps believers understand the Scriptures, apply them to their lives, and grow in faith. Through the faithful exposition of God’s Word, we are taught, rebuked, corrected, and trained in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).
Praising God together is an essential aspect of worship. Colossians 3:16 encourages, “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts” (NLT). Praising God through music and song allows us to express our love, gratitude, and reverence for Him. It unites our hearts and voices, creating a powerful collective expression of worship.
By worshiping together, we fulfill God’s command, grow in unity, experience the joy of Christ, deepen our understanding of the Word, and praise God with one heart and voice. This collective worship strengthens our faith and equips us to live out the gospel in our daily lives.

About this Plan
From Acts 2 to Revelation 3, Scripture focuses on God’s work through the local church. Indeed, the local church is God’s 'plan A' for His mission on Earth, and He didn’t give us a 'plan B'. If we truly want to make a difference in this world, we will do so joyfully through our local church by serving others and serving the world.
