God's Word
Now that we have a foundation set of who God is and who we are in the eyes of God, we can build on that foundation by studying God’s Word. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions about the Bible in today’s culture. Some would say it’s just a best-selling book of fancy words or stuffy rules to follow. Some may say it’s a book of fables or tales of fictional characters. Some may say the Bible just serves as a checklist of do’s and don’ts. But that’s not at all what God’s Word is intended to be. It is meant to be an invitation for us to walk hand in hand with God as He shows us His truth. God’s Word must be an essential part of our journey once we have gone all in and are following Him.
Second Timothy 3:16-17 says that the scriptures were supernaturally written and have great purpose. They were divinely inspired by God, and written down by man to be a guidebook for us. Because the Bible is God’s way of communicating with us, it is meant to be useful in training us on our spiritual journey. Just like we study and read to become equipped for a new profession, we are meant to read and study God’s word so we can become equipped to follow Jesus. Even though it was written many years ago, God’s Word is still relevant today. As you read it, His words will reveal areas of your life where you need God to intervene.
Studying God’s Word doesn’t have to be complicated. Even though it could feel overwhelming when first trying to read the Bible, He simply wants us to open His Word and let Him apply His truth to our lives. The more we read His words, the more our sinful and worldly hearts and thoughts will be exposed. God's word will always show us a better way to do life.
Now it's time to practice!
Reflection
An easy way to study any passage in the Bible is to ask yourself these 3 questions...
• Say What? What words or phrases stick out to me? What is the passage saying?
• So What? Why is the passage important? What implications does it have in my life?
• Now What? How can I live out what I just read? How should my life look different?
