All In: Post Baptism ResourceSample
Know Your Identity
Yesterday we started with God. He is the foundation of all things moving forward in your new journey of following Him. Today we are going to build on that foundation, so we must understand who we are through the eyes of God.
Romans 3:23-24 says that because of sin, we could never earn our redemption. Instead, it is a gift! We are sinful people and have been since the beginning of time when Adam and Eve chose their desires over what God wanted for them. That’s why you have decided to go all in through baptism and accept the gift of God’s forgiveness. Apart from God, we know we cannot experience the promise of eternal life and will always be captive to sin.
But through the gift of redemption, He has erased our sins and cleaned our slate. He doesn’t look at you and see your sins, your brokenness, or your shortcomings. He actually sees you as the opposite. He sees His handiwork...His work of art. He is creating a masterpiece with your life. He takes great delight in seeing you thrive in all that He has purposed for you.
You are a child of God- not a product of your past. You can be confident that your failures don’t define you anymore. Your identity now rests on the One who saved you. He created you
and He designed you for His glory. You are no longer defined by your “old self”. Instead, you have
“put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:24
Reflection
Once we accept Jesus, He begins to change our lives. Write down three ways you would define your “new self” (i.e. forgiven, free, loved). Pray and ask God to reshape the way you see yourself.
