Seven Biblical Principles on Finances

DAY 8 OF 8

Principle #7 Giving to people, especially the poor

One time, when Mary honoured Jesus by pouring the alabaster box on Jesus’ feet, Judas Iscariot complained and said,

“Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” – John 12:5 (NKJV)

Even though he said this out of a selfish spirit, Jesus replied and said,

[7] … “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. [8] For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.” — John 12:7-8 (NKJV)

My emphasis is on verse 8. According to Jesus, poor people will always be around, even in the church. So, even if the government of every country decides to share money with every citizen on the earth so everyone is on the same page in finances, there will still be poor people. Why? Because poverty isn’t really about not having money but more about not having an abundant mindset.

It is good to have plenty and read to apply what the Bible teaches on finances. But God knows not every believer will do this, so there will be variations in wealth status.

Dear believer, you have the opportunity to bless poor people generously with what you have. It doesn’t always have to be money. Your giving can include things like food, clothing, and even temporary shelter for homeless people. Don’t say you don’t have enough. Have a generous spirit because when you do, God will keep lavishing you with abundance since He knows you will let others enjoy some of what He has blessed you with.

About this Plan

Seven Biblical Principles on Finances

Money is an essential part of our lives. Without it, many things can’t be done, and visions get stunted because of a lack of adequate resources to finance them. And God knows this. That is why He wants us to be prosperous, and He has provided us with biblical principles to guide us towards financial prosperity so we can have enough for ourselves and others.
