The Gentle Way
In judo, "the gentle way" (jūdō) is a fundamental principle that emphasizes using the opponent's strength against them, minimizing one's own effort and avoiding direct confrontations of brute force. This concept teaches us to harness the energy of the adversary and redirect it, turning the situation in our favor without wasting our own strength. This philosophy applies not only to the mat but also to everyday life and, especially, to our walk with Christ.
Jesus calls us to follow a path where He carries the burden for us. In Matthew 11:30, He invites us to take His yoke, which is easy and light. This means that instead of facing the difficulties and challenges of life alone, we can trust Jesus to carry our burdens. Just like in judo, where the judoka learns to yield to win, we also learn that surrendering our struggles to Jesus is not a sign of weakness but of wisdom and faith.
When we face problems, it is natural to try to solve them with our own strength, but this often only wears us out and leaves us frustrated. Jesus offers a different path, a gentle way, where He helps us turn our struggles into victories through His grace. By handing over our worries and anxieties to Him, we allow His peace and strength to work in us and through us.
Challenge: Today, give Jesus a specific concern you have been carrying alone. Allow Him to help you deal with it in a gentler way. It could be a problem at work, a financial difficulty, a complicated relationship, or anything else weighing on your heart. Trust that Jesus is by your side, ready to help.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for teaching us that we don't need to carry life's burdens alone. Help me to trust in You and to hand over my battles to Your hands. May I learn to follow the gentle way You offer, using Your strength and grace in all situations. Teach me to rest in You and allow You to fight my battles. In Jesus' name, amen.

About this Plan
Judo came into our lives through my late husband, a judoka. When our daughter Bianca, then 9 years old, was bullied and threatened with a box cutter, we decided to enroll her in judo classes. A week later, she successfully defended herself. Today, my daughter owns a judo academy and my grandson Pedro competes at the national level. This is the inspiration for this devotional.
