“...but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Ephesians 5:19-21
This is so much more than what the global church has made in years past. We have isolated wifely submission, which is essential but not the MAIN theme of this chapter in Ephesians. Just before that classic “wives submit to your husband” verse, we see Ephesians 5:21 - “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Jesus wanted us to all submit to each other. In Romans, Paul even talks about outdoing one another in showing honor. Imagine a world where Jesus's followers competed to show honor to others. This world would be changed. Some churches seek the miraculous, and yes, miracles do happen. But I believe that through the power and leading of the Holy Spirit, WE, as His body, are the main vessels of miracles if we are submitted to the needs of each other. If we looked in the mirror a little less and looked at the interests of others a little more, the world would change.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
- Why is this submissive design uncommon in our world today?
- What areas of your life do you need to start submitting to the Lord?
- What areas of your life could you begin outdoing someone in honor?

About this Plan
The purpose of this devotional is to take a deeper look into the "uncommon" living for those of us walking with Jesus. We are declared holy through Christ, so how do we walk in that holiness? How can we be set apart and walk out our holiness?
