Soul Healing Rest

DAY 3 OF 5

Time-Wasting Time

As life happens, we get in a rut of producing, packaging, shipping, and grinding without any breaks for rest, refocusing, or recharging. We schedule our days and lives to be busy-busy-busy, with no down time. Quickly, we can find our schedule so packed with “good” FOR Christ and have no time for abiding IN Christ. I’ve failed miserably at being in a restful state of doing nothing because I’ve crowded my life with too many things to do.

You, too, may find yourself in several deep ruts–deep habits, deep debt, deep work, deep water, deep overthinking, deep whatever, and all requiring deep energy. We need to be delivered from our propensity to go too deep into ourselves. Sometimes, we need to be relieved of our duties in order to spend more time-wasting time with God!

Rest is a lifestyle. As you rest your faith and trust in God, receive the gift of a slower schedule. This time can be used to relieve you of your human efforts and in exchange, empower you to rely on the supernatural efforts of God. When you surrender your schedule to God, His supernatural affects become a reality. God’s rest is based on His unfailing love. His love knows no limits to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. God’s love and rest is strong and enduring. (I Corinthians 13:7-8)

When you see how much love and grace are woven into true rest, it changes your perspective. Conversely, rest is not the lack of productivity or effectiveness. It’s a deep work of the heart and trust in God.

Rest was first instituted by God Himself when He created the world. He took a day to put His perfect creative ability to the side. He placed a day of rest within the first seven days of creation, establishing perfect order. Therefore, God set a precedent and commanded us to honor Him by obeying it (fourth commandment). Also, rest is a reciprocal relationship.

God blesses our rest. It’s restorative blessedness and spiritual rejuvenation. We will find renewal and restoration for our hearts and souls. Surrendering our schedules to the Lord and allowing His divine love to guide us can bring a sense of peace and alignment with His will. It's a beautiful reminder to prioritize spiritual rest alongside our daily activities.
