Soul Healing Rest

DAY 2 OF 5

Training

Just like running a race takes training, so does resting. Jogging and running sound similar. Both take a decision, intention, and effort. Compared to jogging, running involves a much faster, even-paced action, and it demands more effort from the heart, lungs, and muscles. Both are considered a form of aerobic exercise.

There are differences, however, the most obvious being jogging and running is the pace. Both activities involve your legs and lungs in coordination but a different level of fitness. When it comes to your pace, your lungs breathe in rhythm as your body paces in stride. When all the body parts are operating as one, you’re able to use the energy you need to propel yourself down the course.

Your mental attitude plays a big role in your performance and your overall success. It takes more than trying; it demands training to build stamina and endurance over a regimented period of time. Avid runners know a “good” run is when everything works together in their body to expend energy and go the distance. Afterward, their muscles recover new energy to run again.

Such training involves daily practice with rest days built into the schedule. It’s a well-known fact that most runners don’t train the day before a big race. Resting on the day before is crucial, and it boosts their confidence and energy on race day. This planned break in training serves to refresh their mind and body so they’re prepared, focused, and energized to run.

When ‘running to win,’ we must apply these training tips to our spiritual rest. Smart athletes keep their eye on the prize, the finish line. Their mind is trained on the goal. They say ‘no’ to many things that take away from their performance so that they can say ‘yes’ to their best time in the race.

Spiritual resting involves the same disciplines. We have a destiny and a specific call of God woven into our spiritual DNA. When you ‘run’ focused you will be setting good boundaries that will keep your sights laser-focused on your destiny.

It’s easy to get caught up in the swiftness of making a living, raising children, sports activities, keeping up with our neighbors. Declare and decide to be different and take life slower. Stop rushing and consider your next move or decision. Pray about how you can allow more mental margin and prepare for action.
