Jesus Empowers Others To Do God's Will
By Issy V
Today’s passage teaches us so much about Jesus and his ministry on earth. The crowds are still growing, with sick people eagerly pushing to touch Jesus.
We see the demons trying to reveal Jesus' divine identity to the crowd, but the time had not yet come to reveal it, so Jesus immediately commanded them to stop, and they did because Jesus has power over everything – including the spiritual world
Jesus also selects his twelve apostles. He calls them by name to preach, giving them all authority to cast out demons and do works in His powerful name. People accuse Jesus of being possessed by Satan. Jesus answers, "How can Satan be possessed by Satan?" and teaches them.
The chapter ends with Jesus explaining the nature of our family in Christ. All those who do the will of God are members in God’s family.
All of these snapshots of Jesus’ ministry reveal the very nature of Jesus. Jesus was not weak… He was meek (an attitude or quality of heart whereby a person is willing to accept and submit without resistance to the will and desire of someone else – in this case God the Father).
He did not cower to the demons taunting him; He stood strong and commanded them to stop. He did not want the enemy to get in between God's plans of revealing Jesus' nature to the people.
But Jesus also wasn’t a one man show, He wanted to empowered others to carry out his father's work. The same is true today!
God wants to work through us to minister to others. He wants us to help others in need by allowing His Spirit to work through us. This means we must also be strong, yet meek. We need to follow the will that God has set before us. Not the world's desires.
What’s one way you can be like Jesus and serve another person today?
