Daily Double: Markin MarkSample
Keep the Spotlight on Jesus!
By Ps Matt
The Gospel of Mark starts with a quote from the Old Testament book of Isaiah and gives some details about the ministry of John the Baptist.
Mark wants us to see John the Baptist as the messenger who prepares the way by baptizing Jesus.
After Jesus is baptized, a voice from heaven reveals to us that Jesus is the Son of God and Jesus straight away begins to do stuff you’d expect from the Son of God.
He fasts for 40 days and endures temptation from Satan, he travels around announcing God’s Kingdom, he calls his disciples to begin training them, and he begins to cast out unclean spirits from people.
Right from the beginning of his Gospel, Mark puts a spotlight on Jesus. His Gospel tells us all about who Jesus is and what Jesus did during his earthly life.
We’re learning that, just like Mark, we need to keep the spotlight on Jesus and let him shape everything we do.
Just like Jesus called the disciples to follow Him, He’s also calling every person to lay down their nets and follow Him.
Just like Jesus endured temptation, He’s also calling us to resist evil and live for God’s Kingdom.
