Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 183 OF 365

I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food (Job 23:12).

What is your personal testimony concerning obedience to God’s Word?

Job is perplexed as he shares his innocence with his friends. He knows that he has honored God's commands yet suffers great affliction. Generally speaking, to obey God’s Word is to know His blessing. The same verb “departed” in the expression “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips” emerges in Joshua 1:8: “This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth.” He is promised success for submitting to its teachings, which he experiences. The Lord stretches Job’s faith and blesses him again abundantly after his trial (James 5:11). We must also obey God’s Word, knowing that eventual blessings will come.

Employment Point: Treasure God’s Word and be rewarded according to His perfect timing.
