The Morning Hunt - Day Two – Protect Your Eyes
A lion’s eyes are their most important attribute. Their eyes reflect the light they are exposed to during the day, making them more effective at night. Ironically, exposure to the sun helps them to be able to work in the dark. Not only can lions absorb the bright light they are exposed to during the day, but they also have a second eyelid that keeps their eyes moisturized and dust-free. This amazing eye gives the lion a significant advantage when hunting various prey after the sun goes down. We all know about a lion’s roar, agility, and strength, but without its eyes, the lion’s other attributes are not as effective. In other words, everything important about a lion starts with its vision.
Just as lions have extra protection for their eyes, we must protect both our natural and spiritual eyes. Our eyes are essential to our effectiveness as Men. On the spiritual side, we must be constantly exposed to the Son if we want to make it through dark times. Jesus said He was the Light of the world for a reason. He also challenged us to keep our eyes healthy, cleansed from the filth of this world and temporal desires that make us lose focus on the real prize of knowing Him. What we behold, we will become. Keeping the Words of Jesus in our sight allows us to keep our hearts pure and every part of our lives working optimally. In other words, when our vision lines up with the Light of the Word, we will be more effective in the darkest times.
John 8:12 ESV - Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Matthew 6:22 ESV - The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,
Proverbs 4;20-23 ESV - My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their[b] flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
Job 31:1 MSG - I made a solemn pact with myself never to undress a girl with my eyes.
Psalm 19:11-14 MSG - here’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure. Otherwise, how will we find our way? Or know when we play the fool? Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh! Keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work; Then I can start this day sun-washed, scrubbed clean of the grime of sin. These are the words in my mouth; these are what I chew on and pray. Accept them when I place them on the morning altar, O God, my Altar-Rock, God, Priest-of-My-Altar
