The Morning Hunt – Day One – Follow the Scent
Lions hunt by scent first. The scent is carried by the wind, so while a lion cannot dictate where its prey is, it can go towards the hunt by paying attention to the wind. Often in Scripture, the wind represents the Spirit of God. In John chapter three, Jesus tells Nicodemus that people do not know where the wind comes from or where it is going; the wind is subject to God, and we must be willing to follow and obey His Spirit. What if the lion does not follow the scent that the wind sends it? That lion will be hungry that day. Similarly, if we do not heed the promptings of God's Spirit, we may find ourselves spiritually hungry and unfulfilled.
Why don’t we respond to the promptings of the Spirit? As men, we often want to fix things on our own: our marriages, a mistake on our job, or even a financial gap. We often go about looking for solutions, but we are not able to solve them. It is like the lion that decides to go in a different direction than where the wind is leading it. We must learn to pay attention to the promptings of God’s Spirit, and when we do, we are often given solutions before problems ever arise. How do we start doing this? By actively seeking God's Spirit and by opening ourselves to His Guidance, we can begin to navigate life's challenges with His Wisdom and Strength.
I believe that how we start can have a significant impact on how we finish. God’s promptings are not elusive or unpredictable; they are easier to recognize when we start the day with Him. What does your morning look like? Getting the kids off to school? Coffee? Emails? Finishing the argument with your wife from the night before? Rushing out the door to prevent being late (again)?
You may have to get up a few minutes earlier, but I guarantee that when you begin your day with your Heavenly Father, He will lead and guide you into all Truth for every situation you face. Instead of starving for victories, you will triumph in the hunt and capture what He has set aside for you because you followed your spiritual nose. Today, be like a lion and depend on the wind of the Spirit of God to guide your day and help you achieve the destiny that He has for you.
John 3:8 ESV - The wind[a] blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 16:13 ESV - When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT - Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
