DAY 8 OF 12

Light of the World

There are many different ways that Scripture teaches us to relate to Jesus. While engaging Jesus as Saviour is perhaps the most common way of interacting with Him, He also reveals Himself as King, Lord, Redeemer, Healer, Deliverer, Second Person of the Trinity, and a host of other titles.

Profoundly, John the Revelator chronicles an encounter that he has with Jesus in the heavenly realm. Jesus is revealed to be the worthy One. Of all the beings in heaven and on the earth, only One was found to be eligible to take possession of the scrolls, break the seals, and orchestrate the will of God as seen in heaven.

With power and authority conferred on Him as a reward for His sacrifice, He is ascribed the authority to rule over all creation as the pre-eminent One.

In a few places in the New Testament, Jesus is also called the Light of the world. This means that He is the truth, the ultimate truth. He is the One who reveals the Father perfectly. In Him, there is no darkness. This means that there is no lie or deception in Him. Being the Light of the world also means that Jesus came to expose all darkness in the world. Nothing escapes His sight. Nothing can be hidden from Him.

We can choose to either try to stay in the darkness or come into the Light to receive the freedom of knowing God and being known by Him. The Light brings freedom, truth, and grace. Where do you notice areas in your life that are still hiding in the darkness? Why do you think this is the case? What fears do you think are causing you to hide from God instead of walking into His glorious light? In prayer, bring these areas into the light of God. Allow Him to shine His truth on these things. The amazing truth is that when we do this, God’s light will bring healing, restoration, and peace. God wants His light to bring you peace. This peace is a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

About this Plan

Welcome Home

ShofarBand is a South African worship and songwriting collective. In January 2024, we released our live album, Welcome Home. This plan is based on those songs, telling the story of a God who is both transcendent and intimate, both high above and near to us. May this plan and these songs enlarge our view of the love and holiness of God, creating space for encounters with His Holy Spirit.
