Growing a Peaceful Heart

DAY 1 OF 7

Einstein Insight (Historic Story)

Brilliant scientist? Yes. Discoverer of the theory of relativity? Yes. Forgetful individual? Yes. How so?

Well, according to a little-known story, Einstein once boarded a train and was sorting his luggage when the conductor passed through the car to collect tickets.

“Hold on,” Einstein said. “It’s right here in my coat.” Einstein fumbled in two pockets and shook his head. “That’s odd,” he mumbled. “I thought it was . . .” “Never mind, Dr. Einstein,” the conductor assured. “I know who you are. It’s all right.”

“But I need . . .”

“It’s no problem. Believe me. I’m sure you purchased a ticket, sir.”

As the conductor walked away Einstein reached up to retrieve a piece of luggage. While other passengers relaxed and chatted, Einstein continued his search, shuffling through papers, ties, shirts, a toothbrush, and even tools and test tubes.

Soon the conductor had collected everyone’s tickets and passed Einstein for the third time. Frustrated and a bit annoyed, he gently chastised the famous scientist again, but Einstein replied, “You don’t understand. I need to find the ticket because I don’t know where I’m going.”

Most of us are not brilliant scientists, nor have we made any remarkable discoveries. However, we can all be forgetful. One thing to never forget is our ultimate destination. No ticket needed. We cannot buy salvation or earn our way to heaven. Jesus provided the ticket for us. Scripture reminds us that no one can boast. Our role is simply to follow Jesus!

Today’s Peace Step: For inner peace, remind yourself of where you are going and who provided the way, and stay in contact with Jesus daily.
