Discovering Faith Amidst Uncertainty

DAY 3 OF 7

THAT Could Be Behind Your Problem

After I started reading the Gospel of Luke from the beginning and was stuck in the first chapter, I had a sleepless night.

Short synopsis: Zechariah had found out from an angel that he was finally going to be a father! However, he could not believe this because it was humanly impossible.

The angel said: "And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.” (Luke 1:20 NIV).

I had dealt intensively with this verse, and now I lay awake in the middle of the night. I asked God, "Is there anything You want to tell me that I couldn't hear because I've been too distracted? Do You have to wake me up in the middle of the night to get me to listen?” And my heart said, “... Speak, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10 NIV).

Do you know what happens when you turn the tables by making a question out of your pain? What might anger and annoy you? The enemy wants to take away your joy. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10 NIV).

Don’t let the enemy of your soul take away your joy!

And, because I believe in a good God, I believe that after what He wants to tell me has arrived in my heart, He can calm my inner turmoil. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:23 NIV).

Where should you be listening? How is God trying to reach you? Can you believe that God means well with you?

You are a miracle!

About this Plan

Discovering Faith Amidst Uncertainty

The testimony of Zechariah is usually visited around Christmas as the prelude to the birth of Jesus. We tend to skip over this to get to the "good part!" We can learn a lot about Zechariah’s faith, and lack thereof, through the circumstances that developed in His life. God used Zechariah, even in his doubt!
