What to Say When You Don't Know What to Say: Truth From God's Word for Any SituationSample
Life-Giving Words for the Lonely
You know how it feels because you've been there yourself. Sometimes in life, our souls ache for connection, for being seen and known in a way that our casual and often hurried interactions can’t touch. Feeling alone even when surrounded by many other people can cause the deepest hurt, though we rarely ever mention it.
But occasionally, desperation gives voice to the hurt, and those who feel safest with us divulge the heart’s secret: I am lonely. How can we encourage them the most, even when our presence can’t solve their deepest need? Fortunately, our Savior understands loneliness because He experienced it Himself, and His Word offers timeless insight into truths that help us remember we are never alone.
Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. PSALM 25:16 NIV
I am sorry you feel lonely. I am here for you, and God is even closer, wrapping you in His Arms of Grace. Remember, Jesus promised He is with us to the very end of the age. We are never alone. What’s the best time we can get together?
She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” GENESIS 16:13 NIV
God sees you and He will rescue you at just the right time when you call out to Him.
God sets the lonely in families, He leads out the prisoners with singing. PSALM 68:6 NIV
You aren’t alone in this. This is a family matter! And God’s children—all of us—are ready to stand with you and see you through this time.
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. PSALM 46:7 NIV
Everywhere you go, you walk hand in hand with the Lord Almighty, who loves you. You will never be alone.
He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. ISAIAH 40:11 NIV
I love that God sees us as His lambs cuddled close to His Heart. Though the world around us might feel cold and distant, His Love is firm, holding us in His Embrace.
You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. EXODUS 18:18 NIV
You are doing a great job, but you can’t keep this up all alone. How can I pray for you and support what you’re doing?
