The Supreme Court of the United States is the court of last resort. What that court decides becomes the law of the land—except when it comes to God's moral law. God reserves the right to decide what is right or wrong, and who is worthy to inherit eternal life. We all fall short of God's perfect ideal, so God offers to forgive our sins and grant eternal life to all who accept His Son into their lives. God offers this new life based on faith so that everyone can have equal access. Even though we are free to ignore God's offer, the Bible teaches that there are consequences to our choice. We read in 2 Thessalonians 1 that one day, the Lord Jesus will come with His mighty angels. In flaming fire, He will bring judgment on those who do not know God, and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. The Bible says such people will suffer punishment, forever separated from the Lord and from His glorious power. When the time of judgment comes, it will not happen because God is vengeful and loves to punish people; no, it will happen because when people choose to reject God's invitation, they are choosing to accept the consequences. God is loving and gracious, willing to forgive us and change us on the inside. At the same time, if we choose to ignore God, God respects our choice. That is why many people choose to embrace Jesus Christ. They then spend their lives making a difference in our world.
