The Gospel of MarkSample

The people that are listening to Jesus are brought from being surprised and astonished to being offended at who Jesus is by just a few questions. They are offended because “He grew up next door, playing the same games, eating the same food, hearing the same words… How could this MAN think He is any better than me?” It reveals a selfishness and pride in their own hearts because Jesus is different, Jesus is special and is the only one that can be holy and also fully man. The purpose of Jesus’ life can get warped and become a standard for us to measure up to instead of a simple picture of God's love towards us. It can be hard to accept the perfection of Jesus when all we have experienced is imperfect people.
But Jesus poses a challenge to all of us: to live a life of humble vulnerability towards our Heavenly Father and the ways He reveals Himself to us. Does this challenge make you feel defensive or inspired?
