God Will See to It That We Will Survive

Are you a fan of reality TV? My goodness--"survivor-type" shows certainly have been the hottest item on the tube in recent years. The more extreme the experience that the poor victims have to undergo, the better the audiences like it--eating worms, cuddling with snakes, jungle treks, desert hunger, wild animals, and on and on.

The ultimate survivor experience is yet to come, and everyone living at that time will have to go through it. I speak, of course, of the day of judgment. The prophets tell us of the terror that people will feel when they see our universe coming apart. Even mega-catastrophe movies seen in theaters with threshold-of-pain audio cannot adequately prepare people for the disintegration of everything that once seemed solid and dependable.

But the prophets tell us also to relax and trust that our Savior will bring us through that awe-filled day. "The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved" (Joel 2:31,32). You have Jesus. That makes you the ultimate survivor. You are safe.
