The Disciples Encounter the Risen Lord

A Confession

Our risen Lord, how foolish we your people are,

And how slow of heart to believe all that has been spoken about you.

We confess these things to you and are sorry.

The promises you declare in your faithfulness are eternal.

Lift the eyes of your church from what is temporary to what is everlasting.

Lift the heart of your church from brokenness to wholeness.

Lift our voices from only pleasing to praising.

As we stand in you, you take all inadequacies, sinfulness and rebellion

and present us holy and blameless to our Father.

We owe you everything, Lord Jesus. You died, rose and will come again.

Make us ready for that day.

Amen.

Journal Exercise

If you have difficulty believing that Jesus was risen from death, write a prayer honestly confessing that difficulty to God.

Write a prayer in which you will find reasons we find in scripture for believing that Jesus has been raised from death. In this prayer ask for the Holy Spirit to give you assurance in your heart.

A Challenging Prayer

Call again upon God for such an outpouring of His Spirit that we, his people, may be assured of his love through his word.
