CounterculturalSample
What does culture tell us should be important to us? What does the world tempt us to pursue? For the Western world at least, it’s success. The better the job, the more respected we’ll be. The bigger the bank account, the happier we’ll be. The higher the achievements are, the more successful we’ll become. The more followers we have on social media, the better we’ll feel. Sure, it sounds good in theory, but we all know that, in reality, this isn’t the way it works. Sure, we may pursue all this and more. We may even get a few of the things we’re chasing. But at the end of the day, where does it leave us? Not as happy, fulfilled, or content as we thought, right?
This is where Solomon’s words of wisdom shared here can be so helpful. Though at first glance his warning may sound dire and depressing, it’s an incredibly honest statement that speaks to the human experience. Everything we chase after in this life won’t last. And it certainly won’t bring us lasting fulfillment. But, because of Jesus, we aren’t left with nothing. Instead, we can choose to shift our focus and pursue a relationship with Him. He wants us to have deep, lasting fulfillment. He wants our hearts to find what it’s seeking. And we can find it—in Him.

About this Plan
Jesus had a way of taking ideas that everyone understood and flipping them upside down to show His followers something new. We’re going to look at some of Jesus’ most countercultural ideas and dive into the way they turned preconceived notions and expectations on their heads, ultimately teaching us what it looks like to take Jesus’ lead and follow His countercultural example in our own lives today.
