Serving as a FriendSample
Doing as He did
My journey of faith has been diverse and evolving. During my childhood, I was introduced to Catholicism and baptized, marking my initial steps into Christianity. As a teenager, my spiritual path led me to a Baptist church, where I continued to grow and learn. In adulthood, my journey of faith took another turn when I was baptized in the New Methodist tradition. However, over time, my understanding and approach to Christianity have evolved towards a non-denominational perspective.
Since then, my focus has shifted to center more on the teachings of Christ rather than the varied doctrines of different churches. In all of them, however, I found a common thread: serving others. This is perhaps the most important teaching of Jesus in His ministry. He emphasizes service time and again throughout His teachings and supports His words with action, consistently showing that to earn a place beside Him, one should be humble and serve. When the apostles argued about who was the greatest, Jesus reminded them in Luke 22:25-27 of the example He set for them. He said, "But I am among you as the one who serves."
Therefore, serving should be our mission in life; it brings healing to us as much as it does to those we serve. And through service, we draw closer to Jesus.
