What Jesus Said About His Lordship

DAY 4 OF 7

The Lordship of Christ is a heart attitude

Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him (Colossians 2:6-7).

Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28).

Jesus' Lordship begins in our hearts. It is not a set of rules or a doctrinal statement. The Lordship of Christ comes from people who can "see" Jesus, understand his sovereignty, and understand the message of the Bible. To see Jesus leads to two reactions: either people acknowledge his Lordship and worship him, or they reject him in rebellion and hatred because "I want to be my own man/woman", the "Captain of my soul."

Jesus asks for your heart – your whole heart. A few times in Scripture, we read about people who were double-minded – this means they have two minds (James 1:8) or people who are double-hearted (translated: having a heart and a heart) (1 Chronicles 12:33). We cannot have one heart for Jesus and another for ourselves.

If we say Jesus is our Lord, we must do what he says. We must obey him. So many people "commit" themselves to Jesus. "Commit" means that I decide how much I will give. This is not a concept that we find in the Bible. The Bible speaks about surrender. Surrender means we "sign away" everything—every day. Ours is a lifelong journey of surrendering to Jesus. There is only one place on the throne – Jesus does not share his throne.

Obedience: Is there something in your life that is not under the Lordship of Christ? Deal with it. To share it with someone and to pray with that person is often very helpful.

About this Plan

What Jesus Said About His Lordship

Many people want to be saved from their sins. But not many want to submit to the Lordship of Christ. It is not possible to say that Jesus is my Saviour without saying that Jesus is my Lord.
