On Purpose: A Lent Devotional JourneySample
Day 7 | Faithful ambassadors
Reflection
A little confession… when I was at school, I loved wearing my uniform. When my alarm went off at 06:37 each morning, I didn’t have to think about what to wear – every day it was the same beige kilt, pale blue blouse, and navy blazer. Throw on a pair of tights and my school shoes, and, hey presto, I was ready for the day!
But uniforms aren’t just for convenience. They’re a sign of allegiance, belonging, and ambassadorship. As followers of Jesus, we don’t all wear the same clothes. And, yes, I can hear your sighs of relief…
We’re walking, talking ambassadors for Christ wherever we go. Our speech and actions show we’re part of a new family – God’s family. Every comment, every gesture, and every conversation is an opportunity to represent Jesus. So, whether you’re stacking shelves in a supermarket, battling with numbers on your company accounts, chatting with colleagues over lunch, putting your baby down for a nap, or hoovering the house, the way you act and interact matters. It matters because you’re representing Jesus and working in his name.
In the coming weeks, as you work faithfully with Jesus right where you are, you’ll show others what Jesus is like: he’s patient, loving, kind, compassionate, gentle, wise, and so much more. Being a faithful ambassador is part of your God-given purpose. And, as you remember who Jesus is and all he’s done for you, you’re called to give thanks to the Father. Because your Christlike words and actions flow out of thankfulness for all he’s done for you.
Jesus, thank you for your selfless love and extravagant kindness, displayed most clearly at the cross. In all I think, say, and do today, may I reflect your character. Help me be a fruitful and faithful ambassador for you, in the spaces you’ve placed me and the relationships you’ve given me. Amen.
