This I Know: God Will Strengthen Me
Stress doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor, famous or not, saint or sinner. Stress will find you. There’s an interesting book on stress titled Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers. The author explains how even though zebras experience intense stress, it doesn’t last long. When a lion shows up, it’s pure pandemonium, but only for about 15 minutes. Whether the zebra escapes or not, the stress is over soon. Humans are different. Our stressors can last for years. Stress can cripple our mental clarity, our immune system, our hormone balance, and can zap our energy, stamina, and even faith.
If you find yourself in the ulcer-forming, never-ending grip of stress, God’s Word is an ever-present help. The Bible reminds us we have a God who doesn’t merely observe us as we walk through the fire. He gets in the fire with us. When the storms of life are raging all around us, the Bible reminds us our God commands them to the be still—and they listen. The Bible assures us God is our strength and refuge. Are you stressed? Don’t just flail like a helpless zebra; seek help daily in God’s Word.
God will strengthen me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Pray: Lord, You are my rock. Please be my peace as I read and reread Your Word. Let our time together strengthen my faith, my hope, and my joy in You. Amen.
