Encountering JesusSample
DISCOVER
Although we already studied this passage, it is important to study it once more as we dive into the character of Judas.”story of Mary anointing Jesus' feet in John 12 is a profound reflection on the contrast between sacrificial love and self-serving motives, revealing the depth of worship that transcends material concerns. We get to witness a beautiful act of worship performed by Mary. Her act of pouring costly perfume on Jesus' feet was an extravagant demonstration of her love and devotion. The perfume was worth a year's wages - a truly substantial offering. This act was not driven by financial logic, but by the boundless love and gratitude she felt towards Jesus. Mary recognized Jesus' divinity and the significance of His presence.
LEARN
Judas Iscariot's reaction stands in contrast to Mary's act of love. He objected to what he perceived as a waste of resources, suggesting that the perfume could have been sold to benefit the poor. However, his concern was not genuine. John reveals that Judas was not motivated by compassion but by greed. He had been embezzling from the disciples' funds, and he saw an opportunity to gain more. Costly worship is not just about monetary offerings but about giving our all to God. It involves surrendering our time, talents, and treasures for His glory. It's an act of extravagant love that acknowledges His supreme worth in our lives.
APPLY
We must examine our own worship and motives. Are we willing to offer God our most valuable possessions, not out of compulsion, but out of love and gratitude? Or are we like Judas, driven by selfish interests and worldly concerns? Mary's act of extravagant love and Judas' self- serving motives in John 12:4-8 serve as a reminder that our worship should be characterized by love, devotion, and sacrificial giving. May we strive to offer God the best of ourselves, not out of duty but out of profound love for the One who gave everything for us.

About this Plan
Join us as we walk through seven encounters with Jesus. Just as Jesus transformed these individuals, the narratives of your shame, fear, guilt, and failure find redemption when met by the grace bought by His death on the cross. Your response to encountering Jesus has the power to transform the darkness of your story into a picture of grace, and redemption. How will you respond when you encounter Jesus?
