Encountering Jesus

DAY 3 OF 49

DISCOVER

In John 3:13-21, Jesus continues His profound conversation with Nicodemus, unveiling a fundamental truth—that our experience, no matter how significant or profound, cannot save us. He starts by reminding Nicodemus of His unique divine nature, having descended from heaven as the Son of Man, the only One who can bear witness to heavenly realities. While Nicodemus undoubtedly accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience as a religious leader, Jesus makes it clear that human wisdom, accomplishments, and religiosity cannot secure a place in God’s kingdom. It’s a reminder that even our most profound spiritual experiences or religious achievements cannot substitute for a genuine relationship with Christ.

LEARN

This passage, echoes the idea that our salvation is not grounded in our personal experiences or religious accolades, rather it is our faith in the Son of God that saves us. Jesus, the Light of the world, came into our darkness to offer us a way of salvation. He didn’t come to condemn, but to rescue. It’s a reminder that we are already in a state of spiritual darkness due to our sin. Only by believing in Him can we step into the light and experience the fullness of life.

APPLY

This passage calls us to acknowledge the limitations of our human experience and place our trust in the perfect work of Jesus Christ. It encourages us to look up to Him as the ultimate source of salvation, rather than relying on our own understanding or works. In Him, we find the truth that sets us free and the redemption that our experiences can never provide.

About this Plan

Encountering Jesus

Join us as we walk through seven encounters with Jesus. Just as Jesus transformed these individuals, the narratives of your shame, fear, guilt, and failure find redemption when met by the grace bought by His death on the cross. Your response to encountering Jesus has the power to transform the darkness of your story into a picture of grace, and redemption. How will you respond when you encounter Jesus?
