Full of It! Living a Life FULL of Faith.Sample
In Hebrews 3, the author compares Jesus to Moses. The audience that this was originally written to was Jewish Christians. They held Moses in the highest esteem. He was chosen by God; he led their people to the Promised land. In their eyes – Moses was the man. And yet this chapter in Hebrews says that Jesus has been counted more glory than Moses and is faithful over us. It was important for these people to understand that the Son of GOD was above Moses, that Jesus’ word was final, and that his sacrifice was sufficient! It’s important for us to grasp this, too. Jesus came to fulfill the law. He is the law – He’s both the Old Testament made complete and the New Testament lived out. And through that, he is sufficient.
For years, I felt like I was held hostage by my insecurity. I woke every day feeling like my worth and value were chained to how much I weighed and what size my jeans were. I put so much value in the opinions of other people about who I was and what I looked like because I didn’t know God’s truth about me. I searched for it in many places – all the while being “saved” but not really understanding how life changing salvation is. Why? Because I didn’t know the Word of God. I wasn’t encountering Jesus because I wasn’t seeking him. So, I understood that I was saved, but I didn’t understand the depth of my salvation. That is until I started studying scripture. When I learned the freedom that the Cross brings us and I truly believed in my identity in Christ – that’s when the chains of insecurity were broken. And that’s when I realized that Jesus was truly the only firm foundation to build my life on – to build my faith on. Because if he could bring me freedom from my biggest struggles, then I knew he would come through in everything else.
When we learn that our identity is rooted in Christ and that he is our provider of all that we emotionally need to fill us up, we experience freedom! When we trust God to fill our voids and emptiness, our faith grows. Understanding the freedom that comes from the power of the cross helps us trust that Christ is above ALL. Jesus builds our faith.
