The Fruits of the Holy Spirit
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit have a different outpouring to the gifts. They are shown in our lives as we use the gifts of the Holy Spirit more and more. They are some of the qualities that we tend to include when we speak of holiness. The Catechism states, “The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve of them: "charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity.” (CCC1832)
It is easy to see how these “fruits” flow from a life of faith, deeply connected to the Holy Spirit and truly living out of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. When we pray for an increase of the gifts and fruits in our lives God often gives us opportunities to use them. It is in our using of the gifts and fruits that we grow in them.
As you pray today, pray for opportunities to use the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.
