I once asked someone who came first in their life. Was it their family? Their wife? Their friends? God? Without hesitation, he said "I come first in my life". That's true of most of us. When it comes down to it, we all tend to look out for ourselves before anyone else. But that's not what we see in Joseph's story. He doesn't look out for himself first. He doesn't look out for his family first either.
For Joseph, God comes first in life. Being faithful to him is more important than anything else, no matter the cost. We could say the opposite was true of his brothers. They were always looking out for themselves. But look what happened to them and to Joseph. When Joseph was faithful to God, putting him first, his life ended well. When his brothers were faithful to themselves, putting them first, their lives got worse and worse. Faithfulness to God is always, always worth it.
Think it Over: If someone looked at the evidence of your life, who would they say comes first?
