No one likes to suffer, especially when it is unjust. The story of Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers is one of the most tragic events in all of scripture. Joseph suffered tremendously, but we can take comfort and encouragement from his own words 20+ years later when he said, “You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people. What you meant for evil, God meant for good.” (Genesis 50:20).
Not only does the life of Joseph show us the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation, but it also shows God’s sovereignty in how “He works all things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to his purposes (Rom. 8:28).
