The Nine Beatitudes of JesusSample
Day 5 - Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
Another great beatitude Jesus spoke is about those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Jesus said they shall be filled, in other words, satisfied. But what does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness? I thought we’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (see 2 Corinthians 5:21), right? Here’s the answer.
To hunger and thirst for righteousness means to pay the price to live by the dictates of God according to the standards of scripture. And that includes bearing suffering for the cause of the gospel. Every believer will attest to the truth that suffering for your faith is uncomfortable. But according to the Word, satisfaction is in God for that kind of life.
Dear believer, don’t let your source of joy be in anything in this world. Instead, let it be rooted in what God says about you. If God says He has blessed you with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus (see Ephesians 1:3), believe in Him and live it. Don’t let what you have in your pocket disturb your mind; for God’s Word is powerful.
God is your source of everything, including joy. Never forget that. Bear the marks of Christ’s suffering in your body for upholding the gospel. The Lord God will never forget to reward you for your sacrifice in His kingdom. Shalom!
